Adobe Audition won't export to Adobe Premiere Pro

$

I use Dynamic Link to send the files I'm working on through Adobe, I know it works because I can go back and forth through Premiere and After Effects with no problem and Premiere to Audition works excellent too but when I click multitrack > Export to Premiere Pro it doesn't work. It shows on Audition like it's working but it never sends it to my sequence in Premiere Pro. What am I doing wrong?

Thank you

CS6 Impressions and Requests

Overall my impression of CS6 is much more positive than CS5.5. I'm seeing features restored from 3.0 that are great to see back again. I'm also enjoying some of the new functionality. But some key features of AA3.0 are still missing, which I used often.

1. Generate Silence. This is useful in the waveform editor in many cases. It's great we can generate tones, but silence is the blank canvas that is needed.

2. Sample editing by dragging individual samples. Perhaps this exists, but I couldn't figure out how to do it.

3. Generate noise (pink, white). Fundamental in audio. We need this.

4. Spectral Phase Display. Please bring this back from AA3.0. Incredibly useful, and much more powerful than the very rudimentary phase display in CS6. I use this often in AA3.0.

5. Spectral Pan Display. Was not used by me as often as Spectral Phase Display, but still useful to have.

6. Hovering or left-clicking at the top or bottom of a stereo waveform selects or plays only the Left or only the Right channel. This is much easier in realtime to compare left/right channels than using the buttons at the right to deselect channels.

And, new things not related to AA3.0:

1. Ability to use Normalize in effects rack. This is one of the most common effects I would use for working with certain audio files.

2. 64-bit support in Windows 7. CS6 appears to be a 32-bit application. If so, will a 64-bit version be available?

There are new things I'm enjoying about CS6. So overall this is a great effort coming from CS5.5. But AA3.0 remains installed on my PC. Please restore the other features above from AA3.0.

How to open ASND files?

I apologize for what is probabIy a very noobish question -- I did try to find an answer before posting.

I was a happy Soundbooth user but I'm open to jumping on the Audition bandwagon. Since (quoting Adobe) Audition replaces Soundbooth, I was a little surprised to learn that it can't open Soundbooth's native format. Is there any good (easy) way to get SB multitrack files into Audition?

Nudging a clip in CS6's multitrack - no go

Hi everyone,

I can't seem to nudge any audio clips in Audition CS6.   I'm using Win 7.

When I have several clips in the multitrack view, I click on one and then I hold down the ALT key and press the left or right arrows but the clip doesn't move.   Am I doing something wrong?

On the other hand, when I'm in Premiere Pro CS6, I can click on a clip and nudge using ALT left or right arrow.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Can you help us remove a buzzing from our monologue audio in our first film? WILL PAY, YES REALLY!

Hi All

We shot our first film at the weekend, and while I'm sure you know what's coming next, we do and did know the importance of getting good sound right first time.  We filmed with a directional mic and operated it correctly.  Unfortunately, the budget didn't allow for an external recorder, so we had to record into camera - it was the best we had available.

We've ended up with a constant buzzing sound on ALL dialogue we've recorded.  The camera was a few feet away from a refridgerator which is what I think has caused it.  It's not too practical to shoot again any time soon, so I'm thinking we'll have to do some ADR

However, I'm hoping the fact that the buzzing is constant means it's remotely possible to save what we have already, so that's the reason I'm turning here.  It's just a monologue, so obviously from one actor only.  Here's a sample:

http://speedy.sh/URrmV/0328v-Audio.wav

If it is possible to perform miracles on this, I'd be willing to pay a small sum or make a donation to a cause of your choice.  It's our first film and we're really happy with the video, but the dialogue is of course fundamental.  The film itself is five minutes long when finished, so we'd be looking to be able to reproduce the steps - or if we find someone truly amazing, have you on-board as our sound editor for the full thing.

Our film is at the mercy of your abilities.

Sincere thanks in advance,

Lee

Recording Audio from the Internet

$

I just got a new computer at home loaded with Windows 7.  I downloaded Audition 3 earlier this week and I am having trouble figuring out how to record audio from the internet (say a youtube video) into Audition.  Keep in mind, this is a home computer.  I don't have a  mixing board set up here at the house.  Any advice?

Could this be an "unfixable problem?"  I have heard that Windows 7 makes this kind of recording virtually impossible in order to avoid copyright infringement.

Audition problems with ASI5211 analog pair & AES stereo in at same time ...

$

That is, the Audio Science ASI5211 card is advertised as essentially a 4 mono channel input card, 2 of which are analog and 2 are digital. However, I haven't been able to get Audition (CS5.5 or CS6) to recognize this capability. The ASIO/MME/WDM driver sets supplied by Audio Science (so far, versions 4.10.7 through 4.10.20) and its associated desktop driver control panel seem to show this ability as 2 separate stereo audio streams that can be set to pass either of the physical stereo input sources (Analog & AES). I select one stream as analog and the other as AES, but I can't seem to map these streams/inputs discretely inside Audition in the "Multitrack" view to 4 different channels.

If I use the ASIO driver class in Audition, I'm only shown a single "Default Input" stream (# 1) and can select among either the left or right physical input to map to the left or right stereo Audition channel. This appears to be the limit of my choices in the "Multitrack" input select view as well.

If I use the MME (WDM) driver class, I can select between the 2 streams (#1 and #2)  as "Default Input" but again, whichever "stream" is selected, that's the only choice I get in the "Multitrack" input select view ...

I also have another instance of Audition that is running on a pair of ASI5644 cards (4 stereo record streams per card) and the ASIO driver class, that I don't seem to have this kind of problem with.

The Audio Science drivers are a "monlithic" kinda deal in that the one package is intended for most (if not all) of their product.

Any ideas?

converting .wav files to .mp3 files in Adobe Audition 3

I am trying to save a .wav file as an mp3. file.  When I go to Save As and click on file type/Mp3, it asks me if I want to overwrite the current .wav file.  When I say yes, it saves it as a .wav file.  How do get it to save as a .mp3 file?  I'm certain that there is an easy way to do this, but I'm missing it.  Any help from this knowledgeable forum would be most appreciated.

Audition 4.0 Announced

$

Except the official name is Audition CS5.5.

...which gives you a good idea of the direction it's going.  Audiition CS5.5 is being marketed specifically as an audio post production for video tool--the announcement makes no mention at all of its abilities as a stand-along audio production or editing tool.

Read the details here:  http://www.adobe.com/products/audition.html

Beyond that, follow the link to the FAQ for some details of the rationale for the new product and a list of new features.

There's also a page to register for them to tell you when a download trial is available.  I guess that's all we can do:  download and try it to see if the "new direction" still gives us a worthwhile audio tool...or start the painful decision process about what to buy instead.

R6025 - Pure Virtual Function Call

$

After several months of problem-free AA3, I now keep getting the same message: "Runtime error R6025 - pure virtual function call" whenever I press the Edit tab.

Does anyone know how I can resolve this problem? Will Uninstall and Re-Installing it work? I run Vista. I'm not really technically minded and it couldn't have come at a worst time as I'm trying to put together my entry for the Hospital Broadcasting Association awards with my limited AA3 knowledge.

Any help, preferably using words I can understand, would be appreciated.

Audition 2 & 3 presets gone missing? How to re-establish them.

It's a good scheme to back up your Audition 2.0 (or 3.0) workspaces and  preferences from time to time even if things are running well. To do so  is quite simple.

1. Close Audition

2. Go to C:\Documents and settings\{yourusername}\Application Data\Adobe\Audition

3.  You should see a folder named 2.0 (or 3.0) - make a copy of the whole folder  and its contents and call it "My last 2.0" [or 3.0, or whatever] using normal  Windows procedures.

If you then want to reset your preferences to  the "factory install" state, delete the original "2.0" or "3.0" folder. When you  restart Audition, it will be re-created automatically, and in its default  state. But doing so will erase your own preferences and workspaces, so  do not do that unless you have a backup first - or even two.

In  the future, if you've had a problem you may need selectively to restore  (copy) the files or folders from "My last 2.0 (or 3.0)" into "2.0 (or 3.0)", as they  contain important setups and customisations which you'll probably want  to have back. Here's a list of some of them:-

DefaultWorkspaces  [folder] - contains the "factory" workspaces. Audition expects to find  the contents there under the original names, but if you want you can  replace them with defaults of your own devising, using the same names -  but under normal circumstances, leave them alone.

OriginalUserWorkspaces  [folder] - these are in essence backups of the workspaces you have  saved yourself. If (using the program's relevant option) you restore a  workspace after having amended it, Audition will use the the version of  the workspace in this folder.

UserWorkspaces [folder] - these are  the current versions of workspaces you have created yourself. If you  restore a workspace after having amended it, Audition will replace the  amended workspace in this folder with the original one from the  OriginalUserWorkspaces folder.

Problems with recording time

$

When recording then Audition sometimes records an unlimited time and I usually stop it after 4 hours.

Sometimes though Audition stops on its own without me doing anything. Today I let Audition record the environmental sound and when I checked after 4 hours then Audition had stopped after 1 hur 23 minutes.

Why is that?

How can I force Audition to continue recording without stopping on its own?

steps to troubleshoot and get past common problems with Audition

$
0
0

When you encounter a problem with Audition, the following steps are often useful for getting past the problem and/or determining the cause of the problem:

1.  Hold down SHIFT while you launch Audition

This overrides the preference files and launches Audition using the default settings.

2.  Manually rename or delete the preferences folder

Step 1 only overrides certain preference files, while others such as Workspace preference files, may be the cause of the problem.  Depending on your OS, locate the "5.0" folder in the location below and rename it or delete it.

     Windows XP: C:\Document and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Adobe\Audition\5.0\

     Windows Vista/7: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Audition\5.0\ *

     Mac OS X: ~\Library\Preferences\Adobe\Audition\5.0\ **

          * "AppData" may be a hidden folder.  You can type it into the location bar, or enable "Show Hidden Files" in Windows.

** This is your user-level Library folder, not the system-level tree.

3. Check your Audition Log.txt file

To enable a log file with CS 5.5, you must create an empty file in your preferences folder called "Audition Log.txt" using notepad, text edit, or any other editor.  After you create this file, launch Audition and if it fails, open and/or share the log file for more specific information about what's happening.

4. Check the Operating System console or error log

Both OS X and Windows can track application errors, and if the problem is occurring outside of the application code - a driver conflict, for example - then the OS error report may be more informative than what we can get from the application.

OS X: launch /Applications/Utilities/Console.app   Clear the view, then launch Audition and note any error messages that appear.

Windows: launch Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer > Windows Logs > Application then launch Audition and note any error messages that appear.

5. Re-install Audition

If at this point, nothing has resolved the issue or the error logs are inconclusive, it's a good time to uninstall Audition, reboot, and reinstall Audition.

6. Obtain the full crash dump and send it to the Adobe team

So you've walked through all the above steps, you've disconnected any external hardware interfaces to rule out any device or driver conflicts, and you've exhausted the basic troubleshooting steps.  Visit http://forums.adobe.com/thread/900619 and follow the steps for your OS that Charles has documented to best obtain a full crash memory dump for Audition, and send that to audbugs@adobe.com with a description of the problem and the steps you've taken, and we'll take a look.

mp3PRO (FHG) is defaulting to .wav

$

I'm using Audition 3. When I try to save something as an mp3, the only option is "mp3PRO (FHG) .wav; .mp3" which for some reason is defaulting to .wav instead of .mp3. So everything gets saved wrong.

Yes, Steve from AudioMasters, I have found the work around where you select mp3PRO and type .mp3 after the name of the file, but I never had to do this before. We would just select mp3PRO, type in the filename WITHOUT an extension, and it would save as an .mp3. THAT'S WHAT I WANT! I don't want to have to type in the extension everytime I save an audio file,  because I never had to before!!

Is there a way to crack into "mp3PRO (FHG)" and change its default save parameters?

By the way, I have another computer running Audition 3 and when I try to "Save As" using the mp3Pro option looks like this "mp3PRO (FHG) .mp3" and it works fine, again, WITHOUT having to type the extension.

BTW... I don't care what the EULA says, the developers shoudn't try sneaking in background updates of the plug-ins (such as mp3PRO) without the end-user's permission. I wouldn't agree to an update like this because it usually ends up changing the plug-ins functionality for the worse.

Any help is appreciated!

-Chris

Opinions on the new Adobe Audition

$
0
0

Please do not mistake this thread for a dupe of the other thread of a similar topic, I'd like to give a more in depth opinion of the new version of Audition compared to its predecessor.

For the past five years I have spent many hours of most days experimenting with audio, specifically audio restoration. I tried countless other applications before discovering Audition and none could offer what I was looking for. When I did discover Audition (version 3), about 3 years ago, it is one of the very few pieces of software I have since installed on every computer I use. It was extremely easy to use whilst having an incredible array of functions. The help manual was extremely comprehensive, giving detailed instructions and explanation of every single option in Audition, this alone I thought deserves praise. The program constantly delighted me; it seemed tailored to the needs of someone who would be using it to its full potential. I was constantly discovering new levels of potential that Audition offered and it has been the invaluable in allowing me to provide much needed audio restoration for vinyl rips of tunes that would otherwise become lost forever. With all that Audition v3 offered I could master even the worst, hiss-filled, click-ridden, muffled vinyl rips to recordings that would sound perfectly acceptable to be released on professional CDs.

I could not fault Audition v3, but I could, however, think of improvements, albeit very few. For years I eagerly awaited a new version and now it has arrived, I have to admit I am a quite disappointed.

The improvements that I had hoped would have been applied, have not. Instead, it seems to be a basic edition of version 3 except with a makeover. It does indeed work slightly faster, for example, instead of taking 6-7 seconds to load a track in version 3, it only seems to take 3-4 in version 4. Unfortunately this is about the only thing I can praise it for. The layout is unnecessarily complicated. I always valued audition for its extremely ergonomic layout, making it an extremely unconfusing application to work with. The new layout is clustered and unnecessary. I appreciate that I can alter the layout to what I would like, but it's unnecessary hassle to have to make it usable - I have never had to alter the layout of version 3 from its default. The available effects of the new version are the same as the old version, this alone was a little disheartening as I was anticipating numerous new abilities, but I can't really think of what else could be added, so I overlooked this. I can't, however, overlook that the processes are far more basic than what they were in version 3 and do not offer the ability to alter them to my exact needs, the declick effect being a prime example. Version 3's declick process had a vast array of settings allowing me to amend them to my exact requirements, the new version simply has 2 sliders, not even a "fix single click" option. I also feel that the help file is marginally more difficult to navigate than in the previous version.

I have to say that I agree with what was said in the previous thread, this new version simply appears to be a rehash of Soundbooth, which I have always perceived (as do many other people I have spoken to) to be a layman's version of Audition v3.

In conclusion, I regret to say that I'm sticking to v3. The new version only offers slightly faster processing, but at the cost of most of its functioning.

What's going on? Surely this is the reverse of how updates work?

Extract audio from CD fails in Win 7

$
0
0

I recently purchased a new Dell Studio XPS 8100 running Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium.

I purchased Adobe Audition 3.0 and upgraded to 3.01.

Extract audio from CD does work at all -- it does not even open a window to choose a track.

If I try to use the open command, I see the tracks but it says file type .cda is not supported.

(All of the above work perfectly with my old XP computer.)

I know my new hardware is working well because I can extract a CD track to a .wav file using
Windows Media Player.  I can then opoen the .wav file in Audition and edit it.

What kind of dirty tricks is Microsoft Win 7 plalying on me?

Has anyone else had this problem?

Are there any patches to Audition or the OS to fix the problem?
