Default Save Options?

$

Hello,

I work at an NPR station. All of our users have Adobe Audition CS 6. We are in the process of converting from Audio Vault to Wide Orbit as the software we use to upload our files. For some reason - now that Wide Orbit has been installed on all of our computers - the default save option is now "WideOrbit Format Write (*.wav)" - this causes our sessions to crash. We need the default save function to be just a regular Wave PCM. I understand this can be taken care of by simply using the "Save As" function every time - but as audio producers - we are taught to constantly save our work. Most of us have been muscle memory trained to use the hot keys "Control + S" every time  - but it always saves in the WideOrbit Format. So my question is: Is there a way to make the save and hot keys (control + s) function default to a .wav file like it used to? This would solve so many tears and heartache in my newsroom. Thank you all very much for your help.

hello all... need a little help with mixdowns.

I got a few tracks on a simple project an hour long.

Nothing peaks above -0.5db. then every time i mixdown the final track, the resulting wav is always to about -3 db. making me have to normalise it to get it back up to its "real" volume.

IS there any way around this? why does audition not mixdown to the ACTUAL volume in the tracks?

im having trouble adding fullness to my vocals, and need to learn how to do this in audition. what im talking about is the vocals sound really "airy" like spaced out. not upfront and thick. ive tried eqing and compression but im not really that good at it yet. ill list a link to the song so you have an idea what im talking about. im looking for a more upfront full sounding vocal. not the background aired out type. i need sum suggestiovns on what to adjust like how to compress it, or ideas on where it could be eq'ed ect....so far ive only been able to get it so that the vocal volume itself is louder..but it still sounds aired out. ive also tried stacking the tracks....like having 3 of the same vocal and panning to the left and right of 2...but it only increases the volume...and stills sounds aired out.

Cannot Arm for record

Hi all,

I've been using Audition 2.0 for a while now, and it has been generally smoothly until recently.  It has always skipped when I was recording, but I attributed this to my soundcard, so I've lived with it.  But last night after I messed around with the edit-> Audio hardware setup, I couldn't arm for record anymore.  Anytime I tried to press on the arm for record button, nothing happens.  It stay grey and never turns red.  The thing is, this only happens in that one project.  If I open a new session or open an old session, I can arm for record.

But I don't want to open a new session, because I've been working on this session for a while.

I've searched the net and amazingly I haven't found anyone with the same problem.  Is there anyone who couldn't arm for record here?

thanks

iMac OSX El Capitan 10.11 - Adobe Audition C5.5 Soundflower problem solution/soundflower not working/soundflower disappeared

Dear All,

A few years ago - some of you may have seen my solution to Soundflower and being able to record what you hear through your Mac, ie with Adobe Audition. I'm currently using CS5.5 but I'm hoping this will work if you have higher versions. Although I did read somewhere that CS6 and above may already be without issue due to the encoding within the program itself and third part software compatibility.

Anyway, I upgraded to OSX El Capitan and Soundflower stopped working, as did Adobe recording what I was playing through my speakers.

Here's how I solved it, probably until there's another major update from Apple and I wince, grit my teeth and hit the update button! I'm a sucker for punishment! But why shouldn't you have the latest OS X? Issue is, it's mainly Soundflower that's stopped working. The last time this happened (majorly) was with Mountain Lion from Lion OS X.

Uninstalled any previous versions of Soundflower by running the 'Uninstall Soundflower Script' - click on it and it'll appear in a box. You need to click the triangle/play icon to run it. It should say 'Done!' in the box below. Then restart your mac.

When it's back up again get back onto the internet and download the latest version of Soundflower, v2.0 here - Release Signed Version for Yosemite/Mavericks · mattingalls/Soundflower · GitHub - it's the Soundflower-2.0b2.dmg file you need.

Then go through the install process, clicking the folder in your Downloads folder - or wherever you direct your downloaded files. You may also need to go into the Apple icon, top left of your mac then System Preferences>Security&Privacy>General and change the dot at the bottom to be in 'Anywhere' when it comes to downloading content that isn't official Apple Software etc. You may also need to unlock the padlock icon with your password to make the changes. If it's already set to 'Anywhere' you should be able to download the Soundflower 2.0 software.

Once you've gone through the install process, restart your mac.

When you're back up again Soundflower won't necessary appear in your Applications folder via Finder. Neither will the small Soundflower icon appear in the top panel to the top right of your Mac screen. It didn't on my Mac anyway, it may on yours, if so, that's probably a good thing. If not, don't worry - just go back to the Apple icon in the top left of your Mac screen and back into System Preferences>Sound and change your INPUT to Soundflower 2ch. Then change your OUTPUT to MULTI-OUTPUT DEVICE.

Screen Shot 2015-10-07 at 3.23.18 PM.pngScreen Shot 2015-10-07 at 3.23.07 PM.png

You may also need to open Applications>Utilities>Audi MIDI Setup - as you'll need your mac configured like this:-

Screen Shot 2015-10-07 at 3.28.58 PM.png

Make sure Multi-Output Device is highlight first.

Set Master Device to Soundflower (2ch) - Soundflower

Tick Built-in Output and Drift correcttion

Tick Soundflower (2ch) and drift correction.

Also make sure you adjust the Built-in Output section, in the column on the left as you'll need to make sure it has the little Apple face icon - you can adjust this by clicking on the settings cog at the bottom of the left column and select 'Play alerts and sound effects through this device'.

Then to Adobe Audition, as I said earlier, I'm (still) using CS5.5

Open Adobe Audition and go to the Audition tab in the top left corner of the screen and select Preferences>Audio Hardware from the menu. Then configure your settings like this:-

Default Input:- Soundflower (2ch)

Default Output:- Built-in Output

Master Clock:- Built-in Output

Screen Shot 2015-10-07 at 3.23.55 PM.png

Hopefully that should work for you if you've had trouble since the El Capitan update, like I did. Only took a day or so this time however to find the latest Soundflower and work out how to get it all working.

How do you gradually slow down a track?

$

As far as I can tell, it should work the same way as gradually changing pitch. On Adobe Audition CS6 on a Mac, gradually changing pitch is as simple as using the Time and Pitch > "Time and Stretch (process)" under the Effects menu, then switching from the iZotope plugin to the Audition plugin, and adjusting the beginning pitch and final pitch over the selected audio. Why doesn't this work with the time? I'm trying to slow down a piece of audio gradually, but it doesn't seem to work.

For those who do not know - Adobe no longer has activation servers for AA3. Anyone know a workaround for not being able to activate AA3 anymore. I've had to do a new install. Disabling activation is quite an astonishing move by Adobe if this really is the case

Adobe Audition won't start C++ runtime error

Hi, I downloaded and used the trial version fine for the full trial time. Decided to purchase this weekend. It's not a cheap piece of software, so I'm hoping for some decent support here.

I managed to run the full unlocked version a few times without problems. I haven't installed anything else since it last ran. I did notice that it seemed slightly sluggish today.... then when I tried starting it later:-

Bang!

"Runtime Error" Program C:\Progra...

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the applicaton's support team for more information"

I tried a complete uninstall, restart, reinstall... same error. I'm not finding anything relevant in this or other support forms. The error message isn't tellin gme too much either.

Help please!

Audition 3.0.1 crashes with R6025 error every time

$

OS: Windows Vista Ultimate x64, SP1

I installed the Adobe Audition trial installer, as well as the Audition 3.0.1 patch.  Both installs went very smooth.

Tried to run AA3, and get the "this is a trial version" message.  Clicked Continue, splash screen comes up, and then the app itself finally shows up, but I get an error message right away:

Shutting Down: To continue working where you left off, please restart Audition.

After that, AA3 closes and I get:

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Runtime Error!

R6025 - pure virtual function call

As of yet, I have been unable to completely load the program even once.

I looked around for a few quick tips, what I found:

  • uninstall QuickTime (I don't have QuickTime installed)
  • clear out %appdata%\Adobe\Audition\3.0
  • Remove (or rename) C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Audition 3.0\en_us\ImporterQT.prm

... none of which helped any.   Can anybody help me with this?

Multitrack Duration: How do you change it?

$

I've just started using Audition and I've got a video that's 2:30 in length. Now I created a Multitrack Session and when I put in the video, I noticed that the scroll bar at the top was SUPER tiny. This is also when I realized that the length of the session was over 10 minutes long. I've looked all over Audition and searched the forums and the help, but can't see how to make it smaller. Yes, I know I can zoom in and I know I can just export the selected, but I have to scrub through the audio a lot and with a scroll bar being a quarter of a millimeter, this makes working in small sections of the video extremely irritating.  is it really that hard or complicated to be able to change the duration? I see that it's 13 minutes in the bottom right of the program.

Opening a .xml.sesx file

Hi,

I have to open a .xml.sesx file in Auditions CC 2015.

When I open it, it shows the edits we have done without the actual audio tracks.

I can't link media either, cause then it doesn't show the edit.

How do I get around this? Export the file into Auditions or Premiere Pro to export back to Auditions?

Does Audition MIDI actually work for anyone?

$

Hi -

This is a serious post and not an ad-hoc gripe.

I have just started to use Audition MID and it simply does not work! I have today read many of the posts of this forum and can identify other similar problems - for example - MIDI note off messages not being recorded re-transmitted to synths.

I would suggest that those with continuing problems post here in summary to give a community 'feel' for Audition with regard to MIDI for the benefit of users and developers alike.

As a former Sun Microsystems Test-lead engineer, here is imy appraisal of Adobe Audition MIDI capabilities:

1. It simply does not work. It appears that the Audition Design/Development team designed from a too simplistic stand point. It appears that the functionality was not thought through; and it most certainly looks like the MIDI features were NOT adequately tested in real-world scenarios; especially regarding connectivity with MIDI hardware.

2. The documentation is too sparse and does not sufficiently explain the features and their usage.

Audition as an audio editor is simply Awesome - there's almost nothing else like it IMO; but the MIDI design and testing team(s) have let this application down dreadfully. Senior designer /managers in Adobe - if you read this - you need to talk to your Adobe MIDI Developer and Test Leads and let them know they are destroying the reputation of Adobe and Audition.

Again I ask - does Audition MIDI Tracks work; and are people successfully integrating standard plugins into MIDI in Adobe multitrack sessions with acceptable realtime usage? I suggest we compile our expericen here to give a clear picture to Adobe - they clearly have not tested this functionality.

My experiences have been:

- It takes forever to initiate MIDI tracks

- Scaning for VSTi's crashes Audition - every time

- MIDI note-off messages regurlarly not sent to external hardware synths

- Minimal documentation on how to record from and play back external hardware synthesizers; on monitoring them when playing and on recording multiple MIDI tracks at once or on setting up connectivity to severla external hardware synths (among many other documentation short comings).

These are all issues that were sorted even by the likes of Atari 20 years ago. All of this functionaloty should completely work - it is bread and butter functionality.

Audition not saving Metadata correctly

$
0
0

I'm seeing two problems with how Audition CS6 (version 5) saves metadata:

Problem 1:

After saving a file as a WAV file when you view that file in Windows Explorer many of the metadata tags have the last character truncated.  The only way that I have found to solve the problem is to add a trailing space on each fields entry.  In fact if you change the Recording Date to say "2012" the date won't show up at all in Windows Explorer, but if you save it as "2012 " it shows correctly.

Problem 2:

If I open a WAV file to save it back out as an MP3 - it doesn't matter if I do a batch process or one file it is the same - all the metadata is lost (YES, I have the "Include markers and other metadata" box checked).  I follow these steps.. Open the Wav file>Click "Save as">set Format Settings to MP3>check the include markers>click OK.  At this point if you look at the resulting mp3 file in windows explorer you will see that no metadata is present, but if you still have the file open in Audition it appears that all of the metadata is there - you can even try changing a value and saving again, but Windows explorer still shows no data.  If you completely close the file in Audition and then reopen the mp3 file in audition, you will see that there is NO metadata there either.  At this point you can then repopulate the data in audition and save the file and then it will show the metadata when viewed with Windows Explorer.    VERY Annoying!!

Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug in Audition... It sure looks like a bug to me!!
