wav file not playing in Audition cs6

I'm editing a video session in PPro cs6. The audio sounds fine in PPro. When I select the audio files (two mono files) from the timeline and then do the "Edit...Edit in Adobe Audition...clip" thing, Audition opens and the files are imported as expected. But when I click on the play button in Audition the play head doesn't move and I get no sound in my headphones.

The file is a 24 bit 96 kHz broadcast wav file. Origin of the file is a Tascam DR100mkII. The file was imported into PPro directly from the SDHC card from the Tascam. I split the original stereo file into two mono files in PPro. The two mono files show up in Audition as "96 kHz", "mono", "32 (float)", with a source format of "Waveform Audio 32-bit Floating Point (IEEE)".

When I check "Edit...Preferences...Audio Hardware" I find that Audition knows about and is connected to my sound card (Sound Blaster Audigy FX), and sample rate is set to 96 kHz.

Yet, no playhead movement, no sound. Hmmm...

I will say, this is the first time I've used this instance of Audition. The computer is new, this instantiation of the Production Premium cs6 package is new. I have yet to work with anything other than PPro on this new computer, but PPro is working normally (but considerably faster and smoother on the new computer hardware).

Anyone have any clues they're willing to share?
