How do I execute precision fade ins and outs in the middle of clip for spoken word editing in Audition 6.0?

Unfortunately, I like many others, have had to switch to Windows 7 from Windows XP and not all features in Audition 3.0 will run on Windows 7. I am now using Audition 6.0. I edit spoken word voice tracks for several networks. Often in editing in "Edit view" it is necessary to either fade in or out of a specific word when taking out fluffs or mistakes or reconstructing a sentence to sound natural. 3.0 was intuitive and easy to use as I could set a range and determine EXACTLY how I wanted to fade those ins and outs to sound. It seems that the designers of 6.0 forgot that precision fades are necessary IN THE MIDDLE of a clip for spoken word editing in the Edit view! The only way that I can see is to use the fade in and outs in the "Favorites" drop down and to highlight the range of the predetermined fade. It seems that the designers of 6.0 were only concerned about fading the beginnings and ends of a clip. With every new feature in 6.0, the easiest and most important features in 3.0 were deleted or made less useable. After using Syntrillium's Cool Edit 2000 to every iteration of Adobe Audition, Audition 5.0 was a disaster and 6.0 is somewhat of an improvement. I have produced thousands of hours of network programing and voiceover work using Audition 1.5 and 3.0. I hope that Adobe listens to it's loyal core users.
