Multitrack session: How to have session reference BACKUP copies of the files and not the originals?

Hi.

Back in Audition 1.5, I would primarily save a session AS and have it save copies of all associated files into the same folder as the .ses file. Since getting Audition CC, I have found the option to backup the files through the export multitrack session and saved the project successfully with it's project files... however, I find that Audition CC is still referencing the original files when I open the session file, rather than referencing the backed up files in the folder.

So my question is... how do I get Audition CC to reference and make use of the backed up files, rather than the originals? My reason for this, is simply because I have a large archive of SFX files and do not want changes saved to those original files accidentally. Essentially, I want each session to be self contained and no risk of harming the integrity of the original files, as I reuse SFX for different projects all the time.

If I haven't been clear enough, please ask and I'll try to elaborate on my problem.

Thank you.
