How does Audition CC export a session?

Hi all,

I'm new to Audition

I want to archive any projects I work on so that I can return to them in the future and be confident that everything in the multitrack window will be in the archive. I'm after a good reliable strategy.

When I return to these projects I could be on a different PC with none of the original audio on it.  Even if I stay on the same PC, I'm currently organising my SFX and quite likely to change their filenames and folder hierarchy, so absolute filepaths in the session file are not much use .

'Exporting a session' seems a good option but I'd like to understand what Auditon does exactly when it 'exports a session'.  Could anyone explain?

It appears as if Audition puts copies of all the audible active files in the multitrack session into the export folder. I assume that the session file uses relative paths to 'point' to those files?

I've noticed that if I move any of the original source files, then when opening the exported session, errors are reported. Audition offers to 'Link media'.

However, even if I don't 'link media' the mix is still good and the important active audio is still played. So I assume that the exported session also records absolute paths to those original source files, just in case they prove useful?

Have I understood what Audition does correctly?

Any other top tips for me?

Any advice gratefully received.

Cheers

Geoff
