I've just made the switch from Audition CS6 to CC and I've noticed a difference in the way they work when it comes to saving 4 channel files as stereo.
I work with video files that are recorded from Skype calls where they record each side of the conversation separately but store it in the same file - so there are two video streams and four audio channels (two for each participant - stereo or dual mono depending on their mic setup).
When I import these video files into Audition, it extracts the audio and displays 4 channels. Channels 1 and 2 are for one speaker, Channels 3 and 4 for the other speaker.
In CS6, I would normally save a copy of the audio as MP3 by going to Save As, entering file name and location, changing file type to MP3, then going into Sample Type options and changing the number of channels to 'Stereo', then hitting Save. It would say 'Converting sample type' first, then 'Saving' and I would end up with a stereo MP3 file where all 4 channels had been downmixed to stereo and I could hear both speakers in those 2 channels.
However, doing this same process in Audition CC does not give me the same results. Instead, I end up with a stereo file that is just one speaker from channels 1 and 2 - channels 3 and 4 have been lost, instead of being mixed in with 1 and 2.
So how can I do this in Audition CC? I liked the simplicity of being able to do it by opening the files and then saving them in CS6 so is there an option in CC that I can just change that will allow me to do it that way going forward? Otherwise, how do I downmix before saving in CC?
