Byte stream error in Audition

I have an audio file that will not import - it returns the error: The byte stream type of the given URL is unsupported.

This file is a little strange - it is an MP3 which plays super sped up in Quicktime and not at all in any other player.  I attempted to change the file type, and attempted to play it on a windows machine (I read that wma files can sometimes have this issue).  So far, no luck.

Any thoughts as to how to recover/encode this file to get it to play?
