Audition CC crashes constantly.

To give as much detail as possible:

Using a laptop running windows 8.1.  I'm using the latest version of Audition CC.  I've got a Mackie MCU Pro for the control surface via USB, and a Focusrite 18i20 for my audio interface.  I've imported some OMF v2 files from an export in Logic Audio. Once I import them, I save them as a .sesx file for native Audition support.

After opening, basic work seems to be fine, but as soon as I try things like adding effects on anything, the app starts hanging and being unable to do anything other than be killed by the task manager.  The app is still playing the audio if I had audio open, but its not doing much else.  I've had it hang within minutes of editing on a regular basis.  Is this an OMF import problem?  A problem with the builtin plugins?  I seem to see less crashing if I background render the tracks and I'm editing many tracks, (sometimes up to 30 I think, as this is music from my band I'm mixing)

I was using logic 8, but its not supported on Mavericks anymore, and only partly works, so I'm moving to Audition.

Any ideas what could be causing it to crash constantly?   If I save, then do another change, I've been okay, but have definitely lost some data.  When it crashes, using continue used to confuse me because it didn't default to showing the multitrack .sesx session, instead it showed one of the random audio files.  The last time I had a crash I realized this and seem to see that it may be saving correctly, and I just have to select the main session, not the audio file that it defaulted to.  Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can make the app more stable?
