track levels, bus levels

$

Occasionally, I don't leave myself enough headroom in a mix and I have to turn the level of each of the tracks down by the same amount.  When I do that, should I also turn the level of the busses down by the same amount?  I haven't done that until now, assuming that if the track level goes down, what goes to the bus and from the bus will go down proportionately.  Which way is the right way?

Audition 7.2.0.52 Slow in responding after manipulating clips

Running Windows 7 Pro  64 Bit,  i7-4930K CPU, 32.0 MB Ram

Updated yesterday Audition yesterday, now whenever I move. trim, or manipulate a clip on the timeline ... Audition pauses for half second or more, seemingly to think about the changes I've made.   Or, after I manipulate a clip, and try to press play, Audition will wait a little prior to beginning playback.   But, once I have pressed play, then stop, then press play again ... Audition immediately responds.    Doesn't matter whether I'm using ASIO or MME drivers.

Did not have this problem with the previous build.   Audition was lightning fast.   Now its performance is lagging

Thoughts?  Suggestions?

Vocal Track from Analog Tape

Hello

Over the last year I have been successfully transferring analog cassette tape to digital for my non profit organization. What I do is connect a Sherwood cassette play/ record deck to a Sony digital recorder. I record the tape on the Sony device. Then after coping the audio to the computer's audio folder I begin to clean up the artifacts using Adobe Audition CS6.

Most of the tapes are decades old. Sometimes I need to remove the tape from a compromised cassette case to a new case to reclaim the vocals.

This tape I present is a 1971 recording. This is the only tape of a popular guest speaker - and I do not know what to do. If I can salvage her lecture it would be a great Christmas gift to my organization.

The audio presented is from the Sony digital recorder. Please inspect this audio track. I would be grateful to know what I can do to salvage this audio.

I am wondering if I should remove the tape from its old case. Put the tape into a new case - and then connect the Sherwood deck to the computer - interface directly with Audition and make a recording. I don't know. I have gotten to used to using deck to digital recorder with great results.

Let me know if I can salvage this tape - what steps I can apply to fix the audio - the steps I would need to do to reclaim Envy's vocals.

Thanks!

Audition CS6 plugin scan freezes and/or crashes the system

It seems that every time I try to scan for VST-effects, Adobe Audition either hangs at 0% or freezes my system by loading 6500+ processes and using 100% of my system memory (16Gb).

As a result, it can't find any plugins.

I have tried these solutions:

  • Moving VST folder to another drive and scanning it there
  • Trying to scan just one empty folder
  • Updating to the latest version of Audition (problem existed before and after huge Adobe update)
  • Tried to have only certain, guaranteed to work plugins in the folder
  • Running Audition as system admin and making sure that folder is readable

However result is always the same: no progress or system slowdown leading to crash.

My system is Win7 64-bit.

Is there a fix or at least a theory what the problem might be?

How to change the default audio filetype in CS5.5?

I begin recording in the Multitrack and 5.5 insists on saving it as a .wav file.  At our company we only record at 320Kbps, 48Khz, Stereo .mp3 files.  How can I change the default in 5.5?

How to make Auto-tune with CS6? And how to lower the pitch of the beat?

$

I'm currently trying to record my first song with CS6. I used Cool edit before and people have told me that AA's way better.

However I have many questoins regarding recording effects. Here are my questions.

1. How to use Auto-tune in CS6?

2. How to lower the pitch of one instrumental without changing much of its quality?  I'd like to lower the pitch, record my voice, then increase the pitch of my voice to where the instrumental was originally. (I am trying to remix a song with Chris Brown on the hook so it is killing me)

3. What is the normal procedure of improving the vocal effects after recording? Like some kind of effect that makes your voice sound professional. (I usually make rap songs and sing sometimes, so what are the effects we should use?)

Pardon me if my questions are too simple. English is not my 1st language and I don't really understand all the terminologies in CS6.

Thanks guys.

Converting a mono *multitrack* clip to stereo

$

I have a multitrack project that was exported from Premiere Pro which contains the rough edits of the raw studio sound files.

Several of the clips are mono, having been captured by lav mics. What I need to do is convert these clips in place into stereo before finalizing the mix.

While I can easily convert any clip to stereo from the waveform editor, the clip in the multitrack session does not change. Even if the clip is on a stereo track, the clip remains mono. Dragging the clip to a new stereo track does not work either. The clip stays mono.

If I drag the same clip from the files panel to the timeline, it will be stereo, but then it is not in the proper position and (because of the 1-second "margins") not easy to align with the original mono clip. It can be done, but there are many mono clips to do.

What I am looking for is a way to either convert a mono clip to stereo from within the multitrack session, or a way to "reload" a clip into the same position in a multitrack session, resulting in the stereo clip.

If there is no way to do this, what should have been done?

Thanks for any help!

Session crashed, now folders & .wav files vanished?

$

(I've spent the last 6 hours googling at least 100 different queries, sorry if this sounds abit jumbled...)

Anywho, in a nutshell:

-Adobe CS5.5 crashes

-I re-open, skip the recovery (later)

-I try to open the .sesx via recent files (nothing happens)

-Investigates further to find out my whole _RECORDED folder is now missing

-I end up finding a back up session, it loads, but the media is missing!

I'm usually good at figuring this stuff out, but today hasn't made any sense at all.

Prior to the crash, I saved the session. I edited the waveforms so I know I saved those as well.

I recorded from a new session, so no, I didn't record/save to the temp directory.

The .sesx file even references the missing .wav files correctly, but they simply don't exist anymore.

Now to make matters even more confusing, I used Recuva to search the same location, found session files/folders from a few days ago, but none from today...like...what?

I am VERY confused. Too confused to be angry, I'm just trying to piece things together...

Any ideas?

Does Audition MIDI actually work for anyone?

Hi -

This is a serious post and not an ad-hoc gripe.

I have just started to use Audition MID and it simply does not work! I have today read many of the posts of this forum and can identify other similar problems - for example - MIDI note off messages not being recorded re-transmitted to synths.

I would suggest that those with continuing problems post here in summary to give a community 'feel' for Audition with regard to MIDI for the benefit of users and developers alike.

As a former Sun Microsystems Test-lead engineer, here is imy appraisal of Adobe Audition MIDI capabilities:

1. It simply does not work. It appears that the Audition Design/Development team designed from a too simplistic stand point. It appears that the functionality was not thought through; and it most certainly looks like the MIDI features were NOT adequately tested in real-world scenarios; especially regarding connectivity with MIDI hardware.

2. The documentation is too sparse and does not sufficiently explain the features and their usage.

Audition as an audio editor is simply Awesome - there's almost nothing else like it IMO; but the MIDI design and testing team(s) have let this application down dreadfully. Senior designer /managers in Adobe - if you read this - you need to talk to your Adobe MIDI Developer and Test Leads and let them know they are destroying the reputation of Adobe and Audition.

Again I ask - does Audition MIDI Tracks work; and are people successfully integrating standard plugins into MIDI in Adobe multitrack sessions with acceptable realtime usage? I suggest we compile our expericen here to give a clear picture to Adobe - they clearly have not tested this functionality.

My experiences have been:

- It takes forever to initiate MIDI tracks

- Scaning for VSTi's crashes Audition - every time

- MIDI note-off messages regurlarly not sent to external hardware synths

- Minimal documentation on how to record from and play back external hardware synthesizers; on monitoring them when playing and on recording multiple MIDI tracks at once or on setting up connectivity to severla external hardware synths (among many other documentation short comings).

These are all issues that were sorted even by the likes of Atari 20 years ago. All of this functionaloty should completely work - it is bread and butter functionality.

Where can I find a video tutorial for 5.5?

I am a Soudbooth user in CS4. When I upgraded to the master suite 5.5 soundbooth was not in the package, but Audition was.

Fixing sesx files after included wav files were renamed?

$

In a fit of year-end house-keeping, I embarked on a renaming campaign of hordes of classical concert recordings:  from their original naming convention "ABCddmmyyyy.wav" to the format "ABCyyyymmdd.wav", which I find more helpful for search purposes.

It was an easy fix to do a bulk rename of all the file folders and their accumulation of wav, pk, pkf, cdl, flac, mp3 and cue files (remembering to adjust the filenames referenced inside the cue's), but I'm struggling on how to tidy up and retain valid sesx files (with AA CS6). Typically such a session file may have several long, simultaneous, parallel stereo tracks, e.g.: "ABCddmmyyyy.ORTF.wav", "ABCddmmyyyy.AB.wav", "ABCddmmyyyy_XY-soloists.wav" etc , to which convoluted volume envelopes had been painstakingly applied. How best can I update the sesx to reflect the renaming? .I'm not keen on having to re-import the renamed files and lose the volume envelopes?...or is it possible to copy volume envelopes from an old track to a fresh track?  Thanks.

High latency in Audition CC 64bit (and no latency in other DAWs)

Hi everyone! I have just installed Audition CC 64bit on my Windows 7 SP1 and I wanna use it with Focusrite Scarlett 2i2. There is an annoying latency in Audition and no latency in other DAWs, for example Cockos Reaper (also 64bit). I was trying on ASIO for my audio interface and on ASIO4ALL - no results. How can I fix it?

Audition CS6 Crashes on Save and Attempts to Recover - Temp File Solutions?

$
0
0

After a 46 minute session recording in 44.1K, 16-bit, stereo running CS6 on Windows 7, my attempt to save the wav file resulted in a crash with Close Program or Look on Internet for Solution.

Attempts to restart the program and use recovery data worked initially, but subsequent save attempts resulted in the same crash.

Attempts to copy the wav file also resulted in a crash.

Shutdown and restart of the system yielded the same results, in fact worsening on some attempts to recover, where the data file reported 2 errors, eventually resulting in a complete freeze of CS6 when attempting the recovery.

At some point, the recovery option no longer was displayed -- may have been my fault, but there is a large 2+ GB file under c:\Users\(username)\AppData\Local\Temp\Adobe\Audition\5.0 named Audition5Temp9b878c42-d2e1-46cf-b433-9cebd47d6640 with no extension.

I tried importing this as raw data, 44.1K, 2 channel, 16-bit PCM, Default Byte order, but that resulted in what appeared to be a 3-hour file that was very high amplitude noise.

I'm hoping for a means of recovering this data file.  In the years I used CS5.5, I never had a problem like this and recovery always worked in those rare instances when it was needed.

This is my second extended session with CS6, and this crash has left me wondering why I bothered to upgrade.

Is there any hope at all here of recovering this session from the Audition5Temp file, or is it a total loss.

Please let me know.

Yours,

M.B.

Adobe Audition CC - VSTi and MIDI

$

I have recently built a DAW on an effects rack with a TASCAM Rack-mount sound interface that came with Cubase LE 5.  The computer, which I built myself, is permanently attached and the thing rolls.  I plan on using the DAW for on-set recording for making short films as well as for music scoring.  Cubase is great, only thing is that it is 32 bits and has memory limitations which can easily be reached if you stack enough samplers and NI Guitar Rig buses.  Also, it takes more time to set up each track than Audition or Reaper, which matters a lot when doing live recording.

I am a Creative Cloud subscriber (have been since it was offered).

Is there a timeline to add VSTi and MIDI to Adobe Audition CC?  Thanks.

WAV file will not play

I record my radio show each week.  This week my 3 hour show showed on my thumb drive as a 1,962,667 KB file, which is fairly typical.

But it will not play or convert to an mp3.  When I look at it in Audition it shows 0:0 time on it.  Any thoughts if I can salvage the 3 hour content?

Multitrack Duration: How do you change it?

$

I've just started using Audition and I've got a video that's 2:30 in length. Now I created a Multitrack Session and when I put in the video, I noticed that the scroll bar at the top was SUPER tiny. This is also when I realized that the length of the session was over 10 minutes long. I've looked all over Audition and searched the forums and the help, but can't see how to make it smaller. Yes, I know I can zoom in and I know I can just export the selected, but I have to scrub through the audio a lot and with a scroll bar being a quarter of a millimeter, this makes working in small sections of the video extremely irritating.  is it really that hard or complicated to be able to change the duration? I see that it's 13 minutes in the bottom right of the program.

Change session tempo in Audition 2014 7.2

I'm trying to increase the tempo of a session in Audition 7.2 in the session properties window, but only the metronome reflects the changes. The audio is still the same. Do I need to stretch each track individually? Or maybe complete the mix and stretch the mixed file? Thanks in advance.

Lost Audio...?

Hi all,

So my Macbook froze when I was editing some audio and, harnessing my old skool tech troubleshooting habits, I turned off the computer and rebooted, only to find that my audio - whilst still displaying the exact duration when I left it - was no longer there. It seems bizarre that it is playing, but with no sound...

Is there any way of recovering the original, edited audio? I'm kicking myself because I spent so long editing it.

Thank you in advance.

Kevin
